JVC's D-ILA (Direct-Drive Image Light Amplifier) technology is also called Liquid Crystal on Silicon or LCoS, and is the same type used in SONY's SXRD™ displays.  Other implementations give you a native 7,000:1 contrast ratio, and use a variable iris to adjust the brightness of the image based on the content.  The iris boosts the contrast to 35,000:1, but the full range of light-to-dark isn't available at the same time.

The DLA-RS2's fourth-generation chip provides you with a 30,000:1 on/off contrast ratio without resorting to an iris.  This means your movies will be more dynamic and have more punch.  The following images illustrate this point:

While contrast may be one of the most important parts of an image, color accuracy is too.  The DLA-RS2 comes from JVC's Professional Product division and is calibrated at the factory to the industry's color standard.  That means your new projector will have natural-looking skin tones in your favorite movies and grass that looks real when you're watching the big game.

In addition to the other great improvements in the RS2, JVC has added an anamorphic scaling mode.  That means you can use a Panamorph lens system to get rid of those annoying black bars and experience the full impact of True Widescreen 2.35:1 movies. This is the most impressive movie-watching experience you'll ever have and after being immersed in a 2.35:1 movie, you'll never want to watch them any other way.
