JVC's D-ILA (Direct-Drive Image Light Amplifier) technology is also called Liquid Crystal on Silicon or LCoS, and is the same type used in SONY's SXRD™ displays.  Other implementations give you a native 5,000:1 contrast ratio, and use a variable iris to adjust the brightness of the image based on the content.  The iris boosts the contrast to 15,000:1, but the full range of light-to-dark isn't available at the same time.

The DLA-RS1's third-generation chip provides you with a 15,000:1 on/off contrast ratio without resorting to an iris.  This means your movies will be more dynamic and have more punch.  The following images illustrate this point:

While contrast may be one of the most important parts of an image, color accuracy is too.  The DLA-RS1 comes from JVC's Professional Product division and is calibrated at the factory to the industry's color standard.  That means your new projector will have natural-looking skin tones in your favorite movies and grass that looks real when your're watching the big game.
